点评：I know there is a ton to do in this area but this museum should be on any area visitor’s must do list.
About half of the museum deals with the civil war battle of Hampton Roads more commonly known as the first naval battle involving iron clad ships (Monitor vs. Virginia). They began recovering the Monitor in the 1970 and have preserved and displayed many of its artifacts. There is also a great film that explains the battle, which ended in a draw, but changed Naval history.
The other half includes fascinating displays of historic ship figureheads, ship models, a concise history of the US Navy, an exhibit on America’s cup, and a separate building of small ships.
The small ship building should not be missed. Beautiful wooden boats and many unique boats from throughout the world.
Takes about three to four hours to see everything. Costs $1! and parking is free. Located less than a 10 minute drive from the Patrick Henry Mall.
