点评:I had heard good things about the zoo in Memphis but was not prepared for how incredible it was. I thoroughly enjoyed it (despite it being 90+* and 90+% humidity even in the morning!). Surprisingly even in the heat most of the animals were out and on view (granted in some cases you had to search but they were there).
Most of the habitats were quite nice (grizzly bear's was seriously impressive) and, for the most part, were suited for the animal.
The employees I met were about as friendly and out-going as they could be. One noticed my confusion about an exhibit entrance and stopped to lead me to the proper door; another was cleaning the fish tanks and gave a running commentary on the fish population on display as she cleaned; and yet another had just finished cleaning an exhibit and stopped to talk about not just the animals in the exhibit where she had been working but led me around the building talking about the other animals as well.
A few "glitches": I understand paying for zoo admittance but also for parking? That seems a bit much. There is no map available (at least that I could find) and more signage would definitely be appreciated (on more than one occasion I found myself back-tracking). A sign said there would be a discussion about the red pandas on exhibit at 11.00am. I waited until 11.15 and decided there would be no discussion so left (no excuse there). Why sell tickets at one kiosk and then have folks walk the few feet to the entrance to scan same ticket for entrance? It seems redundant and a waste of time/effort/staff--especially on a Monday when the place is not particularly busy (and administration knew it was not particularly busy as many concessions were closed). Confusing pricing as depends on the day/time.
