点评:Learned about this place from travel guides online. Reachable by Yandex or local bus and a short walk. Entrance fee is 25000 som per person.
You can start by tasting free tea near the entrance. In our case, we were guided towards an English-speaking tour.
We first visited the paper mills and they showed us step-by-step how Samarkand paper is made from mulberry tree branches. There was also a nearby shop where they sell merchandise such as plain papers, envelopes, postcards, bookmarks, wallets, passport covers, decorative masks, and dolls. Price starts at 40,000 som.
Next we were brought to the oil mill where they produce the Samarkand black oil (zig‘ir osh) that they use for cooking (such as plov), and as supplements as well.
There was also a pottery making area where a pottery master had a live demonstration.
All in all, it was a nice place to visit and learn. But as per our guide, not the best place to buy souvenirs (silk cloths, caps, bags, magnets, etc) as they are much expensive as compared to Siyob Bazaar and Shah-i-Zinda. I did buy some paper products for my journaling.
