点评:Went on a hike at Mt. Makiling two days ago (Sunday) as we usually do on weekends. Been hiking here so many times towards Agila base. Usually relaxed and mixed with exploring and admiring the beautiful, lush and very tall trees around. Entrance fee is around P30 per person and must leave an ID as well as fill out their form. For first time hikers here, do not get scared if you hear a very eery sound as though there is heavy rain down pouring but no rain is felt…it’s just the cicadas making those sounds. Often, we observe, they make such loud noises when they hear humans talk or just simply “see and feel” us. Their way of communicating I guess. It can really be very loud during rainy season / weather and oftentimes I still feel unsettled when I hear them but they are harmless. Anyway, so on this hike we chanced upon seeing small, black-furred monkeys between station 4 -5. We’ve never seen monkeys here before and luckily this time, we did. We saw some black birds too, but not sure what type they were as they hid on the thick trees above us. If you get thirsty or hungry, you will come across people selling mineral bottled water, coconuts, Mountain Dew, lemon soda, coffee, rice meals, biscuits, boiled bananas when you reach station 7. But we like bringing some trail mix with us as we walk, and packed sandwiches inside Tupperware…lol we just want to 😁😁😁. But we keep and manage our thrash…and so should you. You will also find a comfort room by the Botanical garden on the right between station 7 and 8. Agila base is at Station 11 where you will find another bunch of sellers of food and drinks. Beyond it will be the next route that will be the rough jungle ahead…yes no more cemented path which will take you to the same length as from the starting point to station 11 ( yes, that far!😁) Anyway there are “habals” (for hire motor bikers to take you back to point 1 only as they can’t go beyond station 11 but not sure how much they charge though as we couldn’t muster anymore strength to walk and climb further 😁). Going down, we saw a black snake with the length of two of my arms lol but it slithered away. So, if you are thinking of hiking here, don’t fear cuz there are many people hiking, biking, running on the way as well as motorbikes running around bringing rice, some vegetation around or just transporting passengers but still very generally quiet all throughout the whole hike trail. Oh and if you go here on rainy season, you will get wet and the trail may get some areas slippery and muddy so keep an eye for millipedes, lizards, and yeah you guessed it right..snakes. On sunny weather, expect to see butterflies, lizards, spiders, birds around. Have fun! 🥰
