点评：One hour southeast of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania on route 40. Well marked entrance to large parking lot. Admission and parking are free. Large staffed visitor center ADA compliant with rest rooms. Best to start with the short historical movie that covers from the French and Indian war to present day. Check with staff on times for various interpretive presentations. There were 2 when we were there: "Soldiers Life" which was a half hour long and explained life in the fort and how it was built and includes a musket firing demonstration. This occurs at the actual fort site which is 300 yards from the visitor center on an ADA path "Fort walk" was a bit over half hour and goes deep into the geopolitics that led to the French and Indian war. This starts at a pavilion adjacent to the visitor center and eventually goes to the fort site. Both programs were quite good. Young children will probably be bored by fort walk but will like soldiers life because they can see the musket go BOOM.
The fort itself is surprisingly small but you can see the actual earthworks that George Washington had the soldiers build.
The visitor center museum has interesting artifacts and displays from the early 17th century up to present day.
About 1/2 mile from the visitor center on a nonADA trail is the Mount Washington tavern. A historic wayside stop on the old national road. Built in 1830 and open to tour.
Be careful on the path to this site, part if it is quite steep and is slippery after rain.
There are several miles of hiking trails here but it had just rained and they were all muddy so we skipped them.
After touring the fort and visitor center ask staff for directions to General Braddocks grave and the Jumonville Glen (This is where a young George Washington started the French and Indian war) which are both quite close and well worth the visit.
There is also a picnic area near the visitor center.
We spent about 3 hours here and if the trails had been dry could have stayed much longer.
