点评:This is the best place in the country to learn about Colonial times and how the common person lived. Williamsburg was the colonial capital of Virginia until the capital was moved to Richmond.
The attention to detail here is unsurpassed and the historical actors are unbelievable in their knowledge. There are very few interpretive signs here. This encourages you to have a conversation with the historical actors in their shops and homes.
Seeing everything here in a day is impossible. If you only have one day, make sure you get to the capital and the governor’s palace. You could probably get to all of the buildings in two days but a third day would be ideal to see the museums, plus go to the special presentations.
We bought a three day multi pass, which is a bargain at $55/adult and $28/child.
Operationally, there is room for improvement in food service and parking/transportation.
Very few options to get a quick bite to eat. They have some to go sandwiches at the Raleigh bakery and some pasties behind the Chowning Tavern. None of these places have an indoor seating area where you can get out of the heat. The Chowning Garden had one employee working and it took us 45 minutes to order.
They also charge for parking at the visitors center and the bus system gets overcrowded in the afternoon when everyone is trying to get back to their car. We found the actual city parking was just as cheap and then you could park closer to the sites you wanted to visit.
