点评：Grazie mille Foundiazione Merz for allowing us a small, perfectly presented, but harrowing insight into the plight of the people, culture, and history, of Gaza.
The exhibition weaves the ancient with the new; stonework rescued from the rubble intermingled with recent work from Palestinian artists. The beauty, culture, artistry, history and stories of a life in Gaza captured, shared and treasured.
Having absorbed the multitude of exhibits from thousands of years ago in the Museo Egizio the previous day, this was a timely and current reminder of a modern-day sacking and destruction that is happening in front of our very consciences. The number of exhibits on show would easily fit into one case on one floor of the Museo Egizio. Sadly, these artefacts could be the only remains, other than the concrete laden generational bodies of thousands of Palestinians that we have watched being transitioned since October 2023, that I ever get to witness of an ancient people.
We spent longer at this exhibition than we did in Museo Egizio. This is no reflection on that establishment but a reflection on the proximity, emotion and heart wrenching honesty of this depiction of a modern-day atrocity. Egyptian mummification spanned a period of over 3,000 years, and archaeologists have uncovered in the region of 100,000 of those lost souls over the last century. The 21st century annihilation of the Palestinian people, over a period of 3 years, will in time be uncovered to show the scale of its operation.
Be on the right side of history, take a look at what we have done, and what is left, and pray to your God that we will be forgiven.
